We need to talk about Marvel...

Look, I'm not saying that everything from marvel is garbage, just most of their recent output.

Why?

Great question, I'm glad you asked. Here is the assessment from myself and my cohost Austin.

The problem lies with quantity over quality. Everyone knows that if you try to do TOO much, all of the quality of your efforts will suffer. From our perspective it seems as if Marvel has it in their mind that more is better. The issue then is that the quality has taken a big dip in recent years. That quality problem lies in both lazy writing, troublesome reshoots, and an over reliance on visual effects.

Now we all know that VFX are a staple of nearly, if not every, marvel property. That is a reality we have all come to expect, and I suspect are all comfortable with. However, with the lift becoming much heavier with the increase in volume the demand on the artists used by the studio has become a bit ridiculous. Reports of being overworked and under paid are not uncommon for the VFX industry, but with the recent uptick in production demand for marvel properties those reports have increased exponentially.

Are they being abusive to the artists? Only they know the answer to that question.

Hoever, what we can all agree on is that we don't mind the wait if the end product is guaranteed to be good. What do I mean by this? I mean this: Marvel, it's ok to slow your roll a bit. Take more time to make something good. Stop catering to the audience that will never love your content and start listening to your FANBASE again. It's not about how much you release, it's about how much your audience connects with what you have released. Since the end of phase 3, with Avengers: Endgame there have been so many marvel outings that I can't even recall them all. And with an easy 70%+ of them being critical and commercial failures it's time to reconsider what you are doing, and how you can recover.

Do we want marvel to fail and slip into eternal obscurity? Not in the least.

We simply want to be excited about them again.

What do you think about the MCU?

What can they do to improve?
